someone else’s Perspective

Enjoyed three days of fishing on Lake of the Woods staying at Muskie Bay Resort. It’s a small, family operated resort with a lodge and a half dozen to a dozen cabins. Cabins 8 and 9 (where I stayed) are located on top of a hill overlooking the bay. Cabins can be opened to make one large cabin that could sleep 12 – 16 people. Cabins were clean and well kept. They each had a screened porch with view of the bay where we played cards and talked fish stories each night.

The service was very good. Breakfast and dinner were served in the lodge on time every day and were also very good. Divers included a main meat dish (pork loin, meatballs, chicken, ribs), a starch (veggies, potatoes, pasta, rice), and a vegetable. Breakfast was typical eggs, bacon, pancakes, toast, potatoes, orange juice, coffee. All was good.

We used their boats and gps units, and the owner and regulars gave tips on where to find the fish, taking time to add waypoints to our gps to assist. Boats were clean and ran perfectly, and included a large net, tape measure on the side of the boat, life jackets, paddles, lights, live well, 50 hp Yamaha, and a minnkota trolling motor.

We caught fish. Walleye, Sauger, Northern, Perch, Rock Bass, Smallmouth, Musky. We just jigged and bottom bounced with minnows and worms which the resort provided for us for an extra fee.

Lake of the Woods boat landing for the resort was about a 10 minute drive down a long gravel road with some significant potholes here and there. Best to have a truck or suv with good clearance. If fishing Crow Lake, the boats are right on the dock at the resort so no additional driving needed. We were walleye fishing so we didn’t fish Crow. Crow is a colder lake good for Lake Trout.

We very much enjoyed the hospitality, service, and camaraderie. The weather in late July 28-30) was warm and a little humid. The cabin did have a portable ac unit that didn’t quite get the job done, but it definitely helped. I’m sure there are only a few weeks where it’s needed.

Suggest wearing pants or bringing bug spray. The house flies were nasty at the boat landing area and on the lake if there was little to no wind.

I definitely recommend this resort!
