Please bring your own towels. Everything else (lodging, boat, gas, GPS, map chip, trolling motor) is handled.

Self-guided is the package for anglers who would rather read the water themselves. You get the boat, the electronics and the lakes, and the rest of the week is yours.
The rental is a deluxe 18 ft boat with a 50 hp motor, a bow-mount trolling motor with spot lock and a Garmin GPS running the current Lake of the Woods map chip. Spot lock in particular changes how you fish here, because it holds you over a reef or a point in wind that would otherwise push you off in seconds.
You are not fishing blind either. Paul and Jake are on this water constantly, and they will tell you what has been producing and where before you pull away from the dock. Most guests find that a five minute conversation at the dock is worth more than a morning of searching.
The portage lakes are the part people underestimate. We keep boats and motors staged on several small lakes back off the main system, and we transport your rental to the launches, so you can fish genuinely remote water without chartering a floatplane.
When to come, by species.
Ontario Zone 5 seasons, so you can plan your week around what you most want to catch. Confirm current regulations with the Ontario Ministry before you travel, since dates can change year to year.
Northern pike and smallmouth bass are open all year in Zone 5, so there is no dead week here. Late May and June bring the walleye and muskie openers, midsummer is the best multi-species fishing, and September and October are when the serious muskie anglers come. In winter the same lodging pairs with Ontario ice fishing instead.

What does the deluxe self-guided fishing package include?
Lakeview lodging plus a deluxe 18 ft boat with a 50 hp motor, gas, a Garmin GPS with the current map chip and a bow-mount trolling motor with spot lock. It also includes use of the boats and motors we keep staged on our outpost and portage lakes, and transport of your rental to the launches. Rates are $190 USD per person per day with three anglers in a boat, or $243 USD with two. Full pricing is on our rates page.
Do I need to know these lakes already?
No, but you should be comfortable running a boat on big water. Crow Lake and Lake of the Woods are large and full of structure. Every rental carries a Garmin GPS with the current map chip, and Paul or Jake will mark up where fish have been coming from before you launch. If you would rather have someone in the boat for the first day or two, semi-guided fishing is the better starting point.
Is gas included in the self-guided rate?
Yes. Gas is included, and so is transporting the boat to the various launches and portage lakes. There is no fuel surcharge at the end of the week.
What is the difference between self-guided and bringing my own boat?
Self-guided includes our rental boat with its gas, electronics and portage-lake access. Bring your own boat is for anglers trailering their own rig, and covers lodging and dock access instead of a boat. If you own a boat and want to fish from it, that is the cheaper option.
Can we add a guide for a day or two?
Yes. Guide time can be added by the day. Most self-guided groups who do this use it on the first day to learn the water, then fish the rest of the week on their own.
What should I bring?
Bring your own towels. Rods and tackle if you have favourites, plus rain gear, polarized sunglasses and an Ontario fishing licence. Everything else, the boat, gas, GPS, map chip and trolling motor, is handled.
